A Brief History of Santa Claus

A Brief History of Santa Claus

Santa Claus has been called by several different names throughout the years. Traditions and legends of Santa Claus for the evolution of the modern-day Santa may have been based on the early Dutch legend of Sinterklaas, originating in the 1600's.

Santa Claus really started to get famous when American author Washington Irving published stories about Santa Claus, referring to him as Saint Nicholas who arrived on Christmas Eve bringing presents for children.

Santa Claus changed and became more famous when writer Clement Clarke Moore wrote a poem in 1823 about a Christmas Eve visit from Saint Nicholas, better known as "The Night Before Christmas" (listed below). Millions of children now could have a consistent description of Santa Claus and his eight flying reindeer.

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
by Clement Clarke Moore

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On Cupid! On, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

Santa Claus is Popular!

American magazines picked up on the popularity of Santa Claus, and many different versions of Santa Claus were published over the next 50 years. Santa Claus even began to appear in advertisements for popular products.

The most famous reindeer, red nosed Rudolph started to appear in the late 1930's.

Santa Claus, Rudolph, and the other reindeer would get periodic boosts in popularity when songs, stories, movies, or videos were released about them. Some of the more significant of there were:

Santa Claus is coming to Town

Jolly old St. Nick

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

Around the world Santa Claus is known as:

English - Kris Kringle or Father Christmas = The Santa Claus name more likely evolved from the name of Saint Nicholas.

Belgium - De Kerstman (Christmas Man) is celebrated on Dec. 26th
note: Sinterklass (which is derived from the Dutch name Sint Nicolaas) is celebrated on December 6th

Italy - Babbo Natale

Germany - Weihnachtsmann or Sankt Nikolaus

Sweden - Jultomten, or Christmas Brownie

Hawaii - Kanakaloka

Chile - Viejo Pascuerro

France - Pere Noel

Japan - Hoteiosho - a priest who bears gifts or Santa Kurohsu

Christmas Tree

Posted by ruLee | Friday, December 19, 2008 | | 0 comments »

The tradition of having an evergreen tree become a symbol of Christmas goes back past recorded written history.

The Druids in ancient England & Gual and the Romans in Europe both used evergreen branches to decorate their homes and public buildings to celebrate the Winter Solstice. Over the years, these traditions were adopted by Christians, who incorporated them as part of their Christmas holiday celebration.

Trees used specifically to celebrate Christmas are mentioned in the early 1600's in Germany and surrounding countries. The families would set up these trees in a prominent location of their home and decorate them with colored paper, small toys, food, and sometimes candles. As these people moved or immigrated to other countries, they brought this tradition with them.

Through the years many different things were used to decorate Christmas trees. As the world moved into the 1900's, many trees were decorated with strings of popcorn, homemade cards and pictures, cotton to look like snow, candy in all shapes and sizes, and occasionally, fancy store made glass balls and hand blown glass figurines. Candles were sometimes used, but often caused devastating fires, and many different types of candle holders were devised to try to prevent tree fires. Electric tree lights were first used just 3 years after Thomas Edison has his first mass public demonstration of electric lights back in 1879. The early Christmas tree lights were handmade and quite expensive.

Today, Christmas tree ornaments can be found in nearly every size, color, and shape imaginable, and they are used to decorate the millions of Christmas trees used throughout the world.

Christmas Story

St. Luke 2: 1 – 14
And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them at the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace,
good will toward men.

Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization
Five Steps to Using Search Engine Optimization to Improve Your Page Ranks
Trying to get visitors to come to your Web site can be a big challenge. Search engine optimization attempts to take some of the guesswork out of this challenge by getting your Web pages to place highly in search engines. When you use search engine optimization, you aren't employing tricks or hacks, but instead writing your pages so that they provide exactly what your customers want while simultaneously showing it to the search engines effectively. These five tips will help you learn search engine optimization to get better rankings for your Web pages.
Step One: Pick a Target Phrase

When using search engine optimization, you need to determine one phrase that describes what your page is about. This is called your target phrase. A target phrase for your Web page should be three things:

Important
Your phrase should be an important part of the page information. If your page is about cat food, then your target phrase should include "cat food" and not just the word "cat".
Accurate
One of the commonly tried hacks with search engine optimization is to try to optimize on a phrase that isn't accurate for the content of the page. Just because the terms "sex" and "xxx" are popular doesn't mean you should optimize for them on your cat food page.
Popular
If your page is about cat food, your target phrase should be one that people will search on. People don't search for "cat chow" nearly as much as they search for "cat food", so "cat food" is a better choice.

There are several search engine optimization tools you can use to find good target phrases:
Overture is a great tool for assessing popularity as well as brainstorming ideas for target phrases.
Google is great for brainstorming target phrases.
Word Tracker can help you assess popularity and also compare how the competitors use the target phrase you're after.
Step Two: Analyze Your Competition

The second step in search engine optimization is to determine who your competition is. Remember that when you're doing search engine optimization, you're working at the page level, not the entire site. So while you might consider any site on pets to be your competition, for your target phrase "cat food" your competition is more specialized perhaps Purina.com or another cat food company rather than cats.about.com.
Check Yahoo and Google to see what shows up when you search for your target phrase.
Examine the pages on the first page, note where and how they use your target phrase. You can use the "Cached" page option in Google to see your targeted phrase highlighted.

Remember that the more popular a target phrase is, the more competition there is likely to be. Sometimes it makes sense to target a less popular phrase where you can corner the market rather than aiming for the highest popularity phrase there is.
Step Three: Write Your Page

Search engine optimization is not all about meta tags. In fact, focusing solely on meta keywords will only help you a little bit, and if you go overboard can actually hurt your ranking. Take the following focused approach to search engine optimization:
Include your target phrase twice in the meta title tag Make sure that your title is "clickable". This is what most people see when they search, so keep your title logical and descriptive.
Include your target phrase twice in the meta description. This description is used by most search engines as a short paragraph below the clickable title, make sure it extends on the title, and doesn't just repeat what the title says.
Include your target phrase in the meta keywords. Don't flood your keywords, use just a few, and don't get carried away.
Include your target phrase in the title or headline for your page. Write that headline using a header tag for your headlines, as search engines often weight words in these tags higher.
Include your target phrase in subheads, using header tags here too.
Finally, be sure to include your target phrase in the first paragraph of your page, and twice if you can. Also include it in other locations on the page, including external links, headlines, and sidebars.
Step Four: Promote Your Page

Make sure that when you announce your page, you use your target phrase in both the link text and any explanatory text. If you run a blog, you will want to blog your page with at least two references to your target phrase.
Step Five: Check Your Results and Tweak

If Google or Yahoo don't crawl your site on a regular basis, then submit your page to them. Wait about a week and then go to those engines and test your search engine optimization target phrase. Your goal should be to get to the first or second page of search results for your target phrase.
Search Engine Optimization Isn't Rocket Science

It's more like magic, in many ways, but there are ways to get your pages to show up higher in search rankings, and these five tips should help you to improve your search engine optimization.

95 SEO Tips and Tricks for Powerful Search Engine Optimization
 Posted by ruLee | Thursday, November 27, 2008 | SEO | 0 comments »

95 SEO Tips and Tricks for Powerful Search Engine Optimization
Ninety-five SEO tips and tricks you should and should not be doing on your Web pages to make them rank higher in search engines. This list looks at more than just meta tags and the basics of SEO, so even if you've got some of the factors, you may not have everything. Scroll to the end of the list to look at the things you should never be doing, as well as the things you should always do at the beginning.
High Priority
Medium Priority
Low Priority
Avoid
Avoid or Get Banned

Write great content (HIGH PRIORITY)

Great content is where it all starts. You can have all the keywords in the world, but if your content is no good, people won't stick around on your site and search engines won't find your site valuable.

Write unique content (HIGH PRIORITY)

Unique content is important too. You need to provide content that has different information than what is on other sites and other Web pages.

Add new content all the time (HIGH PRIORITY)

Sites that have new content added on a regular basis are seen as more reliable than sites that rarely do. This also helps you to increase the amount of relevant content on your site, which also improves your rankings.

Create a great keyword phrase (HIGH PRIORITY)

The first thing you should do when working on search engine optimization is find a great keyword phrase for that page. You shouldn't try to optimize your entire site to one keyword phrase - instead focus on writing pages for specific keywords and phrases.

Choose a phrase that is popular, but not too popular (HIGH PRIORITY)

When trying to decide on a keyword phrase, you want to find one that is popular but not extremely popular. This may seem counter-intuitive, but the reality is that extremely popular keywords are very desirable and so very competitive. It's better to try to optimize for keywords that you can rank higher. You'll get more pageviews from a less popular keyword when you're on the first or second page of the search engines, than from a super popular keyword that you only make it to page 50 of search engines.

Write an accessible site (HIGH PRIORITY)

Accessible HTML is accessible to both search engine spiders and screen readers. The more accessible you make your pages, the easier it will be for search engines to read and rank your pages.

Use the keyword phrase in your title tag (HIGH PRIORITY)

The title tag is one of the most important tags on your Web page. And placing your keyword phrase in the title tag, preferably at the beginning, is very important to get that phrase into the search engines. Plus, that puts your keyword phrase as the link in the search engine index.

Get a domain with your keyword phrase (HIGH PRIORITY)

Putting your keyword phrase in your domain name is a great way to optimize for that phrase.

Use the keyword phrase in your URL (HIGH PRIORITY)

Even if you can't get your keywords into your domain name, you can put them into your URLs. Search engines read the URLs and assign value to the text they find there.

Use your keyword phrase a lot, but not too much (HIGH PRIORITY)

The ratio of your keywords to the rest of the text on your page is called the keyword density. It's important to repeat your keywords in your document, but not too much. Keyword density should be between 3 and 7% for your primary keyword phrase and 1-2% for any secondary keywords or keyword phrases.

Share Your SEO Tips
What SEO tips have you tried that have worked for you? Are there some SEO tricks that aren't on this list? Here are some sure fired ways to lower your ranking and get the worst search engine results. These are the worst of the worst dirty tricks, and they can lower your Google ranking or just get you banned.

Getting page views at any cost is not a good tactic. It never works in the long run, even if it may work for a short while. Beware of any company that recommends you employ any of these techniques.
1. Cloaking
Designing your Web site so that search engines see one thing and visitors see another is called cloaking. This can be done with sneaky redirects or with programming, and it's strictly verboten.

Nobody likes to be tricked this way. If they're looking for a Web site on knitting, they'll be very ticked to end up on a Web site about horses.

Cloaking your Web site is a sure-fire way to get banned from Google.

Learn more about cloaking from the About Guide to Web Design.

2. Duplicate Content
Spam sites sometimes try to collect page views by duplicating the same content on multiple pages.

Don't copy and paste large amounts of text from your own pages, and certainly don't violate copyright by copying content from elsewhere. Google has been known to ban sites that duplicate too much content.

This can occasionally cause problems, because some spamming Web site might be duplicating your content. If you find someone violating your copyright this way, you can let Google know.

3. Have a Robot Write Your Web Site
Just as it's a bad idea to duplicate content, it's a worse idea to get a machine to write your content for you. There are programs out there that duplicate the same content but make a few changes here and there. If Google catches you, and they're pretty good at catching this, you can kiss your page views goodbye.

Write your own content. That's as simple as it gets. Don't buy "instant AdSense" Web sites. If this really made lots of passive money, they wouldn't be selling them.

4. Add Keywords that Don't Relate to Your Content
Meta keywords aren't that important to Google anymore. However, when you list keywords, do list keywords that directly relate to your site, and don't repeat the same keyword multiple times. Spamming keywords by listing every word in the dictionary is a great way to have your ranking lowered in Google.

Likewise, don't use the trademarked names of products made by your competitors as keywords. At best it's a bad user experience, at worse it can get you sued by those competitors.

5. Link to Bad Neighborhoods
Google calls spamming sites bad neighborhoods, and linking to them is a great way to lower your PageRank.

Linking ordinarily would make you a good neighbor and a good citizen of the Internet. However, just because someone links to you does not obligate you to link back to them. Check out the Web site first, and make sure it is not a bad neighborhood.

How do you know it's a bad neighborhood? Check their PageRank and scan the Web site for any of the violations you see here.

6. Hide Text
Don't try to hide keywords by making the background color the same as the font color. This is called keyword stuffing or fontmatching. Google and other search engines are increasingly sophisticated at catching this, and they'll likely remove any offending Web sites from their search engine index.

Likewise, watch how small you make the text. In a variation of keyword stuffing, some people try to put teeny tiny text at the bottom of a page. It doesn't work.

7. Title Stacking
Don't try to add extra
tags for more keywords. This cousin of keyword stuffing is called title stacking, and it won't win you any friends at Google.

One title per page, please, although you may separate that title with a dash to hit a few more keywords that do relate to your content, such as "Pie Crust Recipe - Homemade Pastry Dough."

8. Distribute Viruses, Trojans, or Other Badware
If your site is distributing a virus, trojan, or other badware, Google's going to remove you from their index for the public good. This should be a no-brainer.

Double check any software you agree to distribute to make sure it isn't harmful, and make sure your server is secure, so that hackers don't decide to hijack your Web site and distribute malicious software for you.

Learn more about viruses from PCWorld.

9. Doorway Pages
Doorway pages or Gateway pages are pages that are optimized for one key term but are really designed to be gateways to lead you to different content. For instance the "blueberry," "strawberry," and "orange" gateways might all be designed to get you to go to "fruit punch."

Doorway pages usually have very little in the way of original content and often cloak or redirect users to the intended Web site. Be aware of affiliate programs, because some of these may look like doorway pages to Google.

10. Automated Inquiries
Google doesn't appreciate robots writing your content, and they're even less appreciative of robots checking your ranking. Automated Google queries and automated link submission are both against Google's terms of service, and both of them can get your site banned. They tie up computing resources for everyone.

In Conclusion

Don't be a jerk. Optimize your Web site for Google by designing a clear, well organized site. Don't try to trick people or take the lazy way out of making good content.

What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
 Posted by ruLee | Wednesday, November 26, 2008 | Blog News, SEO | 0 comments »

What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
SEO) is the art of creating Web pages that will rank high in search engine returns. SEO is accomplished by optimizing certain sections or "elements" in the HTML coding of each page. These sections are specifically read by search engines and, depending on the level of optimization, can create a greater likelihood of free referral traffic.

There are several methods and opinions about how a web page should be optimized, and much will depend on the type of site, its content, purpose and competition, if relevant. But in general search engine optimization relies heavily on the proper use of keywords and keyphrases that describe the site's content.

Keywords should first appear is in the TITLE section of the page's source code. They should also appear in the META description section where the page is accurately described by repeating the keywords. The META keywords section will also contain keywords or keyphrases describing the site's product, services or content.

Ideally, the source code for each subsequent page in the site will also have its own unique keywords listed. Each page title should use one or more of these unique keywords for maximum search engine optimization.

Since SEO relies so heavily on keywords, the most important keywords and keyphrases should be used liberally in the first two paragraphs of the content of each page, then sprinkled throughout the body. The last paragraph of every page should also be keyword rich. A suggested rule of thumb is to reach for keyword density between 5-15%. Judgment must be used to invoke keywords liberally without getting too repetitive. It may also help to use bold or italics on a keyword or two, but avoid doing this to excess.

Another important placement for keywords is in the H1 and H2 header fields of each page. The most important keywords or keyphrases should be found here.

Other tricks for helping search engine optimization or SEO are naming image files and anchors with keywords. Anchors, also called crosslinks, are references to other pages within the site.

Finally providing links to and from external sites, called backlinks is also important, as search engine spider bots navigate by links. The text in your page that points to external links can contain keywords too.

Tutors for search engine optimization are available online for those willing to optimize their own sites. There are also many SEO companies that will provide the service at a cost. Some caution should be used in securing a contractor to make sure that what is being promised is feasible, realistic and cost-effective.

Whether performing your own search engine optimization or hiring a contractor, with the billions of web pages on the Internet and the hundreds or even thousands of "hits" that can be returned from any single online search, SEO is a necessity for anyone looking to benefit from search engine traffic.
SEO is the process and practice of optimizing your website so that it ranks well on search engine results pages (or SERPs). When someone types a word or phrase into search engines (like Google) looking for your product, you want to appear on the first or second page of the search results.

It's intellectually interesting to know that there are 917,846,342 different websites that are relevant to the search query, but really, if your website doesn't appear in the first 10 pages (or first 100 results), it's invisible to the world.
SEO is one of the most effective things you can do online, getting your web site optimized in such a way that the search engines will reward you by basically sending traffic your way. SEO is not really that simple, but the bottom line is, if your page is optimized both on page and off, you generally get higher natural search engine rankings, which leads to traffic for you.

If you’ve spent time online recently, you’ve probably read the term “SEO,” or “Search Engine Optimization. But what does it mean, exactly? “SEO” is a term that is used to describe the process by which traffic to a particular site is increasingly generated by search engines by way of search results. The quality of visitor traffic to a site can be measured by analyzing how often a visitor who uses a specific keyword phrase in a search actually performs what is known as a “conversion action.” That is, how often those visitors make a purchase, download materials, request information, or interact with the site in any other way that indicates interest in the product or service the site offers.

Simply put, SEO is marketing through an understanding of how search algorithms work combined with a knowledge of what human users might search for. The end goal is to create a site that contains words for which people will likely search when looking for information such as that contained on your site.

SEO is an extremely powerful tool online – use SEO wisely!
Do you want to learn more about how I do it? I am having a lot of fun answering to them, so keep them coming! You can ask a question by leaving a comment below on this post.

1. Sap Abap asks:
In spite of having good content (at least i presume like so),internal and external linking, page rank two, promoting it with my proved blog, using possible SEO techniques for blogpost my new blog about programming is not getting considerable traffic.

I mean to ask how much time i have to wait to see the results?

What else i can do to make it better visible with search engines?

This is a frequent question among people starting new blogs. The answer obviously depends on how old your blog is, and on how much traffic we are talking about, and on how much experience you already have.

Given that you have not provided numbers, I will try to give a more generic view of the issue.

For a person with no prior Internet experience, starting his first blog, I would say that the first two months are going to be slow. I wouldn’t worry about the traffic on that period anyway, but rather about learning the basics and making some contacts with other bloggers.

By the third month I think that the new blog should be getting at least 100 uniques a day, and after six months a good number to aim to is 500 uniques a day.

Now obviously those are ballpark numbers and they will vary a lot depending on your niche, creativity, and on how fast you learn and implement things.

If the person already have a basic knowledge about websites and Internet marketing, hitting 1,000 daily uniques or more after a couple of months is not an impossible thing.

Finally, as far as search engines are concerned, even if you have experience and a blog growing fast it will take some time for the organic traffic to kick in. You should start to see some keywords ranking well after three months already, but the massive traffic usually take six months or more.

2. Ted Murphy asks:

Most of the SEO strategies I read about are how to promote a blog. How about promoting a commercial website? How would I promote Dominos Pizza, for example? They have an awesome website, but when I search for “deliver pizza”, no joy.

I just think its much tougher for a commercial website to get links. Can a company purchase links to get higher search results? How would that work?

Good question.

Promoting a commercial website is tougher indeed, mainly because Internet users have a natural bias against commercial websites. Bloggers will be less likely to link to it, social media users will be less likely to bookmark or share its pages and so on.

The first thing I would do on my commercial website would be to put a blog there. It is important to give the blog its own sub-domain or sub-folder, and to make the design unique. The more you manage to isolate the blog from the commercial aspect of the site, the better. Now you probably know all the tips and tricks to promote blogs, so I won’t talk about them on this answer.

After that I would try traditional promotional methods, including web directories (good and hand picked ones), article marketing and so on.

Paid links and sponsored reviews are a tricky thing. Google clearly states that they don’t allow this practice, but I also think that the majority of the commercial websites out there engage in link buying, in way or another. I think this is an individual decision that each business owner must make.

Finally, there is one positive side about promoting a commercial site too. That is, the fact that you are selling something. When you have revenues coming from a product or service, it becomes much easier to plan marketing and advertising strategies. It is just a matter of find channels where the money that you will spend will return in a larger amount in the form of sales.

3. Transcriptionist asks:

It is obvious that recession is going to affect almost all sectors except essential commodities/factors of living, but I do see it as a booming season of traffic for bloggers as people will cut down on outdoor entertainments and luxuries and withdraw to indoor entertainments like TV and net surfing. On the negative side for bloggers, advertisers may cut down their budgets. How do you see the recession would affect bloggers - positive or negative? If negative, do you have any tactics for surviving the recession for bloggers?

Overall I think it is going to be positive for bloggers and Internet marketers in general.

First of all, as you mentioned, I think that more people will head to the web for a variety of reasons. Some people will consume more of their entertainment online, others will start using the web as their news and learning sources. All because the web is free and accessible.

Overall, therefore, a see increased traffic on the web, and new opportunities for the people that work with it.

As for advertising, I am not sure if the overall effect will be negative. From one side there will definitely be a downside pressure on the advertising budgets of most companies, but the question we need to ask ourselves is where that pressure will impact (i.e. in what section of their budgets). Personally I think that television, radio and print will suffer most of those advertising cuts, while the online advertising budget might stay stable.

Why? Because the Internet is by far the most reliable and controlled medium. You might not be able to reach tens of millions of people as you do with television, but you have a much tighter control of who will see your message, how much you spend on it, and what kind of results it will deliver. Being able to interact with your consumers directly and to track the results carefully is very important when companies have a limited advertising budget.

So what do I think bloggers and webmasters should do in the face of the upcoming recession? Keep working on your sites, focus on delivering value, and you should be able to outstand it without major problems.

4. Farrhad asks:

What type of posts do well on Stumble Upon?

First of all your content needs to be useful and unique if you want to attract visitors from social bookmarking sites. I guess you knew that part though.

On StumbleUpon, there are some niches that perform particularly well, including humor, tech, and video content.

Another important factor to consider when promoting with StumbleUpon is the design of your site. Contrary to other social bookmarking sites, users won’t see a link or description of your article before they click to read it. Instead, they will go straight to your site page, boom! If upon arriving there they don’t like what they see (i.e. too much ads, ugly site, poor navigation and layout structure), they might go away even before having a chance to read your content.

5. Satish asks:

Would you delete any posts/article from your blog, which doesn’t provide any value after a certain time?

Ex:- If you think of starting a forum and you announce it on a blog post. After a while you change your mind and drop the idea of designing the forum. Now will you delete the old post(announcement post)? Because that article would make no sense for the future and your readers any get confused and they may start searching for the forum.

No, I would never delete a post or article, unless it contained some information that could cause me problems (legal problems, for example).

On your example about announcing that you would launch a forum and them giving up on the idea. I don’t see any problem if a visitor would happen to view that post after some time. All it would communicate to the visitor is that you had an idea, but it didn’t work out.

Those posts are useful anyway to connect the dots, and to show where you are coming from and what you might have done in the past. Additionally, they will still be indexed by search engines, and they might bring in some traffic. Even if the post per se is not useful, that visitor might get curious and visit other pages on your site.

6. Ben Evert asks:

I know you have written about Twitter, but is it a good source to build blog traffic or is it a waste of time? Any blog success stories from using Twitter to grow a blog?

My personal instance in this is: blog more, twitter less.

I think Twitter is a useful social networking tool, and if you want to connect with your readers or fellow bloggers it might be smart to have a presence there.

If your main goal is traffic generation, however, I wouldn’t spend too much time on Twitter.

You got think about where your Twitter followers will come from. For most people, they will come from their own blogs, so your Twitter followers will also be RSS subscribers and visitors of your site.

In that case, tweeting them with your latest posts will have a minimal effect. Sure, you might see some traffic coming from Twitter on your web analytics program, but would that traffic vanish if you had not used twitter for it? I don’t think so, I think those same twitter visitors would have seen your RSS feed or visited spontaneously your blog some time after, so you are just switching the trigger that got them on your blog.

If, however, you are able to gain Twitter followers from external sources (e.g., from guest blogging, from friends that will plug your twitter account and so on), then some real traffic might result.

7. Aarne asks:

Should I remove no-follow attribute from comments authors links?

I have no problems with Spam in my blog and every comment that appears on my blog is really legitimate. Currently I’m removing no-follow from every comment if author has already approved comment. All other will have no-follow removed after 3 days. Is it good practice?

If your goal is to increase the number of comments, this could work. You would need to let visitors know about your do-follow somehow though, else it will have no effect. One thing you could do is to place a badge on the sidebar or above the comments section saying that you reward your commentators with a real link.

Personally I don’t link this strategy though. I think that is a visitor is engaged by your content and has something interesting to say, he will leave his comment no matter what.

Secondly, it can have some adverse effects too. The first one is spam comments as you mentioned. The second one is search engine problems, as some users could leave a link pointing to a malicious website, and you would not even know about it.

8. SEO Genius asks:

My blog currently gets less than 1,000 uniques per day and I am very eager to break that 1,000 uniques per day threshold.

I was wondering what strategies you could give me for breaking that threshold?

I would assume that you are cose to getting on the 1,000 uniques per day mark, right? At least above 500 uniques a day, which is more than half way there.

In that case you could launch a contest or promotion to leverage your current traffic. There are several ideas that you could try, including an SEO competition, an article competition, or simply a contest with prizes for people that talk about your blog.

Another solid strategy is mass guest blogging. That is, prepare some 10 top notch articles related to your niche, and pitch them to 10 popular SEO blogs. Make sure to schedule all those posts on a space of 10 days. This would make sure that readers on that niche would see your name over and over again, getting them curious to check your blog.

Finally, make sure to have some top quality articles published to receive those visitors as well. If you want to convert them into loyal visitors, they need to visit your blog, read a couple of articles and think: “Shit, this is some useful stuff, I better come again here in a couple of days to see the new content.”

source:www.dailyblogtips.com

20 Analytics Tools For Blogs
Posted by ruLee | Tuesday, November 25, 2008 | Blog News, Blog Tools, Design, Tips and Trick | 0 comments »

20 Analytics Tools For Blogs
There are a lot of data points that can be meaningful for tracking blog effectiveness. That is, tracking what happens when visitors arrive at and engage with your blog content. It really comes down to the purpose of your blog. Metrics for a blog that’s focused on making a web site more search engine friendly by adding crawlable content and attracting links is quite different than a blog that’s meant to build thought leadership or brand credibility.

Many of the metrics tools used for blogs are also used for basic web site analytics. That makes sense because many blog initiatives do not have the same kind of budget as web site marketing programs do. Therefore, the analytics employed tend to be low(er) or no cost.

Regardless of the purpose, I’ve assembled a list below of the various tools we use, or have tested to report onsite blog metrics. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), audio (podcasting), which are part of a wider network of social media. Micro-blogging is another type of blogging, one which consists of blogs with very short posts. As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs. With the advent of video blogging, the word blog has taken on an even looser meaning — that of any bit of media wherein the subject expresses his opinion or simply talks about something.

There are many different types of blogs, differing not only in the type of content, but also in the way that content is delivered or written.

1. Personal Blogs
The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read by anyone but them. Blogs often become more than a way to just communicate; they become a way to reflect on life or works of art. Blogging can have a sentimental quality. Few personal blogs rise to fame and the mainstream, but some personal blogs quickly garner an extensive following. A type of personal blog is referred to as "microblogging," which is extremely detailed blogging as it seeks to capture a moment in time. Sites, such as Twitter, allow bloggers to share thoughts and feelings instantaneously with friends and family and is much faster than e-mailing or writing. This form of social media lends to an online generation already too busy to keep in touch

2. Corporate Blogs
A blog can be private, as in most cases, or it can be for business purposes. Blogs, either used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for marketing, branding or public relations purposes are called corporate blogs.

3. Question Blogging
is a type of blog that answers questions. Questions can be submitted in the form of a submittal form, or through email or other means such as telephone or VOIP. Qlogs can be used to display shownotes from podcasts or the means of conveying information through the internet. Many question logs use syndication such as RSS as a means of conveying answers to questions.

4. By Media Type
A blog comprising videos is called a vlog, one comprising links is called a linklog, a site containing a portfolio of sketches is called a sketchblog or one comprising photos is called a photoblog.[4] Blogs with shorter posts and mixed media types are called tumblelogs.
A rare type of blog hosted on the Gopher Protocol is known as a Phlog

5. By Device
Blogs can also be defined by which type of device is used to compose it. A blog written by a mobile device like a mobile phone or PDA could be called a moblog.[5] One early blog was Wearable Wireless Webcam, an online shared diary of a person's personal life combining text, video, and pictures transmitted live from a wearable computer and EyeTap device to a web site. This practice of semi-automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to as sousveillance. Such journals have been used as evidence in legal matters.
Some blogs focus on a particular subject, such as political blogs, travel blogs, house blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, niche blogs, classical music blogs, quizzing blogs and legal blogs (often referred to as a blawgs) or dreamlogs. While not a legitimate type of blog, one used for the sole purpose of spamming is known as a Splog.

25 Tips for Marketing Your Blog
Posted by ruLee | Monday, November 24, 2008 | Money Blog, Tips and Trick | 0 comments »

25 Tips for Marketing Your Blog
With so many blogs being created every day, it’s a mystery to many bloggers how to make their blog stand out. There are many types of blogs or purposes for blogs and a certain number of tactics are applicable to just about all of them. Some companies choose to hire a blog consultant, but others like to try things internally. For those “DIY” companies and individuals interested in practical tips for marketing and optimizing a business blog, try out the following list of blog marketing and optimization tips:

1. Decide on a stand alone domain name www.myblog.com or directory of existing site www.mysite.com/blog. Sub domain is also an option blog.mysite.com. Avoid hosted services that do not allow you to use your own domain name!
2. Obtain and install customizable blog software - WordPress and Moveable Type are my favorites.
3. Customize blog look and feel templates - aka design.
4. Research keywords and develop a glossary - Keyword Discovery, WordTracker, SitePoint, SEOBook Keyword Research.
5. Optimize the blog:
* Template optimization - RSS subscription options, social bookmark links, HTML code, Unique title tags, URLs, Sitemap
* Add helper plugins specific to WordPress or MT
* Create keyword rich categories (reference your keyword glossary)
6. Enable automatic trackback and ping functionality.
7. Create Feedburner Pro account and enable feed tracking.
8. Setup a Google account for Sitemap, validate and prep for future submission.
9. Identify authoritative blogs, web sites and hubs for outbound resource links and blogroll.
10. Format archived posts, related posts.

11. Enable statistics for tracking - Google Analytics, ClickTracks.
12. If podcast or video content are available, submit to Podcast and Vlog directories.
15. Submit blog url to paid directories with categories for blogs - Yahoo, BOTW, bCentral, WOW, JoeAnt.
16. Optimize and distribute a press release announcing blog.
17. Request feedback or reviews of your blog in relevant forums, discussion threads. If you have a resourceful post that will help others, point to it.
18. Research and comment on relevant industry related blogs and blogs with significant centers of influence.
19. Post regularly. If it’s a news oriented blog, 3-5 times per day. If it’s an authoritative blog, 3-5 times per week, but each post must be unique and high value.
20. Monitor inbound links, traffic, comments and mentions of your blog - Google Alerts, Technorati, Blogpulse, Yahoo News, Ask Blogs and Feeds.
21. Always respond to comments on your blog and when you detect a mention of your blog on another blog, thank that blogger in the comments of the post.
22. Make contact with related bloggers on AND offline if possible.
23. When making blog posts always cite the source with a link and don’t be afraid to mention popular bloggers by name. Most of them, however, are the “Most common” or “Top 10” mistakes. Every time I crossed one of those lists I would think to myself: “Come on, there must be more than 10 mistakes…”. Then I decided to write down all the web design mistakes that would come into my head; within half an hour I had over thirty of them listed. Afterwards I did some research around the web and the list grew to 43 points.

The next step was to write a short description for each one, and the result is the collection of mistakes that you will find below. Some of the points are common sense, others are quite polemic. Most of them apply to any website though, whether we talk about a business entity or a blog. Enjoy!

1. The user must know what the site is about in seconds: attention is one the most valuable currencies on the Internet. If a visitor can not figure what your site is about in a couple of seconds, he will probably just go somewhere else. Your site must communicate why I should spend my time there, and FAST!

2. Make the content scannable: this is the Internet, not a book, so forget large blocks of text. Probably I will be visiting your site while I work on other stuff so make sure that I can scan through the entire content. Bullet points, headers, subheaders, lists. Anything that will help the reader filter what he is looking for.

3. Do not use fancy fonts that are unreadable: sure there are some fonts that will give a sophisticated look to your website. But are they readable? If your main objective is to deliver a message and get the visitors reading your stuff, then you should make the process comfortable for them.

4. Do not use tiny fonts: the previous point applies here, you want to make sure that readers are comfortable reading your content. My Firefox does have a zooming feature, but if I need to use on your website it will probably be the last time I visit it.

5. Do not open new browser windows: I used to do that on my first websites. The logic was simple, if I open new browser windows for external links the user will never leave my site. WRONG! Let the user control where he wants the links to open. There is a reason why browsers have a huge “Back” button. Do not worry about sending the visitor to another website, he will get back if he wants to (even porn sites are starting to get conscious regarding this point lately…).

6. Do not resize the user’s browser windows: the user should be in control of his browser. If you resize it you will risk to mess things up on his side, and what is worse you might lose your credibility in front of him.

7. Do not require a registration unless it is necessary: lets put this straight, when I browse around the Internet I want to get information, not the other way around. Do not force me to register up and leave my email address and other details unless it is absolutely necessary (i.e. unless what you offer is so good that I will bear with the registration).

8. Never subscribe the visitor for something without his consent: do not automatically subscribe a visitor to newsletters when he registers up on your site. Sending unsolicited emails around is not the best way to make friends.

9. Do not overuse Flash: apart from increasing the load time of your website, excessive usage of Flash might also annoy the visitors. Use it only if you must offer features that are not supported by static pages.

10. Do not play music: on the early years of the Internet web developers always tried to successfully integrate music into websites. Guess what, they failed miserably. Do not use music, period.

11. If you MUST play an audio file let the user start it: some situations might require an audio file. You might need to deliver a speech to the user or your guided tour might have an audio component. That is fine. Just make sure that the user is in control, let him push the “Play” button as opposed to jamming the music on his face right after he enters the website.

12. Do not clutter your website with badges: first of all, badges of networks and communities make a site look very unprofessional. Even if we are talking about awards and recognition badges you should place them on the “About Us” page.

13. Do not use a homepage that just launches the “real” website: the smaller the number of steps required for the user to access your content, the better.

14. Make sure to include contact details: there is nothing worse than a website that has no contact details. This is not bad only for the visitors, but also for yourself. You might lose important feedback along the way.

15. Do not break the “Back” button: this is a very basic principle of usability. Do not break the “Back” button under any circumstance. Opening new browser windows will break it, for instance, and some Javascript links might also break them.

16. Do not use blinking text: unless your visitors are coming straight from 1996, that is.

17. Avoid complex URL structures: a simple, keyword-based URL structure will not only improve your search engine rankings, but it will also make it easier for the reader to identify the content of your pages before visiting them.

18. Use CSS over HTML tables: HTML tables were used to create page layouts. With the advent of CSS, however, there is no reason to stick to them. CSS is faster, more reliable and it offers many more features.

19. Make sure users can search the whole website: there is a reason why search engines revolutionized the Internet. You probably guessed it, because they make it very easy to find the information we are looking for. Do not neglect this on your site.

20. Avoid “drop down” menus: the user should be able to see all the navigation options straight way. Using “drop down” menus might confuse things and hide the information the reader was actually looking for.

21. Use text navigation: text navigation is not only faster but it is also more reliable. Some users, for instance, browse the Internet with images turned off.

22. If you are linking to PDF files disclose it: ever clicked on a link only to see your browser freezing while Acrobat Reader launches to open that (unrequested) PDF file? That is pretty annoying so make sure to explicit links pointing to PDF files so that users can handle them properly.

23. Do not confuse the visitor with many versions: avoid confusing the visitor with too many versions of your website. What bandwidth do I prefer? 56Kbps? 128Kbps? Flash or HTML? Man, just give me the content!

24. Do not blend advertising inside the content: blending advertising like Adsense units inside your content might increase your click-through rate on the short term. Over the long run, however, this will reduce your readership base. An annoyed visitor is a lost visitor.

25. Use a simple navigation structure: sometimes less is more. This rule usually applies to people and choices. Make sure that your website has a single, clear navigation structure. The last thing you want is to confuse the reader regarding where he should go to find the information he is looking for.

26. Avoid “intros”: do not force the user to watch or read something before he can access to the real content. This is plain annoying, and he will stay only if what you have to offer is really unique.

27. Do not use FrontPage: this point extends to other cheap HTML editors. While they appear to make web design easier, the output will be a poorly crafted code, incompatible with different browsers and with several bugs.

28. Make sure your website is cross-browser compatible: not all browsers are created equal, and not all of them interpret CSS and other languages on the same way. Like it or not, you will need to make your website compatible with the most used browsers on the market, else you will lose readers over the long term.

29. Make sure to include anchor text on links: I confess I used to do that mistake until some time ago. It is easier to tell people to “click here”. But this is not efficient. Make sure to include a relevant anchor text on your links. It will ensure that the reader knows where he is going to if he clicks the link, and it will also create SEO benefits for the external site where the link is pointing.

30. Do not cloak links: apart from having a clear anchor text, the user must also be able to see where the link is pointing on the status bar of his browser. If you cloak your links (either because they are affiliate ones or due to other reasons) your site will lose credibility.

31. Make links visible: the visitor should be able to recognize what is clickable and what is not, easily. Make sure that your links have a contrasting color (the standard blue color is the optimal most of the times). Possibly also make them underlined.

32. Do not underline or color normal text: do not underline normal text unless absolutely necessary. Just as users need to recognize links easily, they should not get the idea that something is clickable when in reality it is not.

33. Make clicked links change color: this point is very important for the usability of your website. Clicked links that change color help the user to locate himself more easily around your site, making sure that he will not end up visiting the same pages unintentionally.

34. Do not use animated GIFs: unless you have advertising banners that require animation, avoid animated GIFs. They make a site look unprofessional and detract the attention from the content.

35. Make sure to use the ALT and TITLE attributes for images: apart from having SEO benefits the ALT and TITLE attributes for images will play an important role for blind users.

36. Do not use harsh colors: if the user is getting a headache after visiting your site for 10 consecutive minutes, you probably should pick a better color scheme. Design the color palette around your objectives (i.e. deliver a mood, let the user focus on the content, etc.).

37. Do not use pop ups: this point refers to pop ups of any kind. Even user requested pop ups are a bad idea given the increasing amount of pop blockers out there.

38. Avoid Javascript links: those links execute a small Javascript when the user clicks on them. Stay away from them since they often create problems for the user.

39. Include functional links on your footer: people are used to scrolling down to the footer of a website if they are not finding a specific information. At the very least you want to include a link to the Homepage and possibly a link to the “Contact Us” page.

40. Avoid long pages: guess what, if the user needs to scroll down forever in order to read your content he will probably just skip it altogether. If that is the case with your website make it shorter and improve the navigation structure.

41. No horizontal scrolling: while some vertical scrolling is tolerable, the same can not be said about horizontal scrolling. The most used screen resolution nowadays is 1024 x 768 pixels, so make sure that your website fits inside it.

42. No spelling or grammatical mistakes: this is not a web design mistake, but it is one of the most important factors affecting the overall quality of a website. Make sure that your links and texts do not contain spelling or grammatical mistakes.

43. If you use CAPTCHA make sure the letters are readable: several sites use CAPTCHA filters as a method of reducing spam on comments or on registration forms. There is just one problem with it, most of the times the user needs to call his whole family to decipher the letters.

How to increase your blog to blog directories ??
 Posted by ruLee | Friday, November 21, 2008 | Tips and Trick | 0 comments »

<div style='float:right; Your website's visitors know that they are frequently updated, and that they are interactive, so they keep returning to "join the conversation."

Search engines know that they are frequently updated, so search engine spiders frequent return to re-index their content. Properly configured blogs will "ping" the search engines and directories each time that they are posted to, constantly calling the search engine spiders back.

Since blogs and forums even come pre-installed in C-panel on many hosting accounts, getting a website going can be as simple as registering a domain name, hosting it at a host that offers C-panel, and with just a few clicks of a button, selecting the blogging or forum platform that you want to use.

You can even customize the look and feel of that blog or forum later if you want to. That way, you can literally have a website up and running in UNDER an hour. All that you need to do is make the blog or forum your homepage, and your site is literally ready for the world!

The big question has always been, how do you then earn revenue from that blog or forum. Here are some options that I use and recommend:

1) Use your blog or forum to build a niche mailing list that you then market to via email. Simply post a subscription form right into the html code of the blog or forum that invites your visitors to join your mailing list. If they enjoy the content on your blog or forum, many visitors will subscribe. You'll build a mailing list fairly effortless over time.

If you're really lazy, that mailing list subscription can be to an "evergreen" newsletter. That is, you can write, or have written, a series of email messages that each new subscriber gets in sequence when they sign up. Put together 52 issues that are scheduled to go out once a week, or 24 issues that are set to go out every 2 weeks, and you have a newsletter that essentially "runs itself" for a year.

Each issue of your newsletter could contain: a simple article, an editorial, and a product recommendation. It doesn't have to be any more difficult than that.

I write each issue of my newsletter fresh, but do know people who use the "evergreen model." They simple set the autoresponder sequence to start over again when the last issue is reached, then they periodically add new issues to the series or revise outdated issues.

If you'd like to see how I've integrated a subscribe box right into my blog, you can check it out at: http://WillieCrawford.com/blog/

With a newsletter, the most often missed point is that you DO need to sell your subscribers on signing up. You do need to give them a compelling reason, assure them that you'll protect their data, and instruct them on exactly how to signup.

2) Use your blog or forum to sell affiliate products. This can be as simple as putting graphics and product recommendations right into your menu bar. I do that on my blog at the url above.

On my blog, I now sell affiliate products that pay me 50 to 100% commission, and that pay me instantly. If you check out my blog at the url above, you'll notice an animated 150 x 600 banner that advertises several products.

When a website visitor clicks on that banner and buys one of those products I earn 100% commission, and it's instantly deposited directly to my Paypal account. Not only do I earn a steady stream of commissions from my blogs and forums, but I don't have to wait on slow-paying affiliate programs.

The banner on my blog is called "Niche Widget" and is was added to my blog simply by copying and pasting a tiny bit of code into the webpage. It will work on ANY blog, forum, or webpage, even on your Faceback or YouTube (or other social networking websites) webpages.

In fact, adding the Niche Widget to sites like Facebook or YouTube is as simple as clicking on the Widget where it says "Grab This Widget." This prompts you to log into any of over a dozen social networking sites and AUTOMATICALLY add the widget to your profile. However, that is primarily designed to send your widget viral, and have lots of others passing along YOUR affiliate link. To get paid you need to click on the link that says "Make Money With It!"

What could be easier?

With Niche widget you can choose from a variety of niches ranging from pets, to relationships, to marketing, to food, or health, and the widget will display ads paying you from 50 - 100% on products related to that niche. The database has over 2000 different digital product in it.

To get the Niche Widget absolutely free, you just visit http://Niche-Widgets.com and sign up. There are premium accounts, but you can go with the free account if desired. The difference is that premium accounts pay higher commissions and pay you a percentage of sales on free accounts when others sign up through you.

With the premium account, when someone who signs up through you earns 50% commission, you earn 25% commission, and the owner on Niche Widgets earns the other 25%.

I really like the system. It was earning me MORE than Google AdSense the very first day that I installed it.

3) Google AdSense or other pay per click programs. You register for one of these accounts, insert the code into your page, and then you basically "sell your targeted traffic."

The AdSense code displays related ads on your blog or forum, and then when someone clicks on an ad, that advertise pays Google for the traffic, and Google pays you an undisclosed percentage of that advertiser's payment (for each click generated).

This was at one time my favorite revenue model because it required very little work. You simply insert the code into your webpages, blogs, forums, etc., and then someone else finds the advertises who pay you. However, after only a little testing, and noticing a higher revenue stream, I AM replacing AdSense on most of my site with Niche Widget. You can get that again at: http://Niche-Widgets.com

4) Your own products. If you have your own products, you can market those directly from your blog or forum just as you do affiliate products. For example, I have both a blog and a forum on my soul food recipes site. On both the blog and the forum, I run an ad for a cookbook that I wrote and sell copies of EVERYDAY.

Since I know that many of my repeat visitors already own my cookbook, I also use to run Google AdSense ads, but now use the Niche Widget.

The Niche Widget displays rotating ads for other cooking related digital products... mainly cookbooks.

5) Product Reviews. It also makes perfect sense to write reviews of products and services related to your niche and then post those on your blogs or forums. I do that by writing reviews and posting related articles on my blogs and forums.

This works because the reviews, or articles, containing niche specific keywords let the search engines know to rank my blogs or forums highly for those keywords. This content (these reviews) posted regularly, are what call the search engine spiders back time after time to keep re-indexing my sites.

I've just outlined five ways that you can monetize a blog or forum. On many of my sites, the blog or forum is EASILY the most visited page on the entire site. Visitors will often visit the blog or forum on your site repeatedly, and NEVER venture off the blog or forum to check out the other sections of your site.

Therefore, if you do want to earn a living from your website, it is critical that you use proven effective ways to monetize your blogs and forums. I've just given you FIVE that earn thousands of dollars per month for me :-)

Make Money Blogging
 Posted by ruLee | Friday, November 21, 2008 | Money Blog | 0 comments »

Make Money Blogging - The Easiest Way to Make Money Online
I believe that the easiest way to make money online is by blogging. It's so simple these days, especially with all the free blog platforms out there. You can easily register with blogger.com, start writing content, monetize the blog and start earning money the same day. And a small blogging business cant be built upon, and will bring you income for years down the line - cha-ching!

How do I go about starting a blog? Well that's simple. I recommend everyone new to blogging head over to blogger.com to get started. It's a completely free blogging platform. No coding skills are needed whatsoever. And they have a number of different templates for you to choose. You can literally have a blog ready in just two minutes.

You need to pick a niche first though. Just one. You need to write content for this niche every single day, so it's important you're passionate and know a little something about it! Once you've decided on a niche, head on over to Google's keyword tool and search for a popular phrase in your niche. If instance, if your niche is weight loss, search for how to lose weight or something. You'll then be given a list of phrases that people are searching for. Then it's just a case of writing content for those keywords.

You do that everyday. Google loves fresh content, so it's important you update your blog everyday. Doing so will give you better rankings in the search engines, and that means more visitors!

Next thing you need to do is monetize your blog, you need to find a way of earning money from your visitors. This all depends on your niche. But I'll give you a few ideas. If your niche is interested in hard physical goods, you can set yourself an amazon or eBay shop. So if you're niche is weight loss, you can add some exercise equipment to your blog through amazon or eBay. And start earning money that way.

You could also have a look on clickbank.com to see if there is any e-books on your niche. E-books are hot right now and most sell well. So if you can find one on clickbank, don't hesitate to start promoting it on your blog. If you can't find anything through amazon, eBay or clickbank. You could try searching in Google for different affiliate programs in your niche. Or you could register with Google AdSense and put some ads up on your blog, where you earn when each visitor click.

Blog Design Tips
 Posted by ruLee | Thursday, November 20, 2008 | Design | 0 comments »

Blog Design Tips For a User Friendly Blog
Now that you've selected your niche let's look at some blog design tips with your readers in mind. Balancing a design with pizzazz and individuality to attract new visitors but yet still have the warmth and comfort of an old worn shoe for returning readers is a delicate task. In order to accomplish this feat here are 5 tips that will increase the appeal of your blog design.

1) Blog theme

The overall blog theme should correspond with the niche you're blogging about. Don't confuse your visitors by going off target with pictures, symbols, or other visual aids that 'decorate' your blog but have no relationship with the niche you're in. Your blog theme is a subtle yet powerful component that reinforces your affiliation with the niche you're in.

For instance on Halloween you display pumpkins, witches, and other scenes and figures commonly associated with this holiday. Christmas holds the same association with Santa Claus just as Thanksgiving does with pilgrims or turkeys.

2) Introduce Yourself

Every blog should have an 'about me' page or section where you introduce yourself to your readers. Here is where you tell them why you're blogging about the niche you're in, your blogging objectives, and any credentials and/or experience especially if it's directly related to your niche. A picture would be also be appreciated by your readers in helping them become a little more familiar with the blogger they're following.

3) Display Contact Information

Don't withhold your contact information or place it in a obscure location on your blog. Be sure your readers have easy access to you thru your email or perhaps even a phone number. Don't underestimate the effect this has on building a relationship with your readers. Breeding an atmosphere of familiarity will help build more of a community feeling on your blog enhancing its popularity with visitors and regular subscribers.

4) Don't Hide Your Best Work

What I mean here is when your post or articles attract larger numbers than usual; make these more readily available to all visitors. Possibly categorize them into a separate section such as 'most viewed post' or 'greatest literary accomplishments' so that viewers can easily recognize and access them. Be proud of these posts and take advantage of their popularity.

5) Make your blog Easy on the Eyes

Avoid the temptation to jazz up your blog with 'eye catching' colors or fonts. Bright colors are harsh and strain the eyes just as some fonts are more difficult to read than others.

Where possible use lighter color tones and try to at least minimize the use of brighter colors especially in areas where visitors are expected to be reading words.

Times New Roman, Arial, and Georgia fonts have proven thru testing to be easier to read then most of the other available fonts. For the record, you can't go wrong with black or brown font colors on a white or tan background.

Well there you have 5 blog design tips that should make it a more enjoyable experience for both the visitors and blogger.

Earn Extra Income by Blogging
 Posted by ruLee | Thursday, November 20, 2008 | Money Blog | 0 comments »

Earn Extra Income by Blogging
You can earn quite a substantial amount of extra cash through blogging. This software has the same name with Wordpress.com, and you can download it at Wordpress.org. Using the Wordpress software will allow you to add many different types of plug-in, help you optimize your blog for search engine and visitors, and provide more additional features and functions.

Step #2 - Build the basic blog content.

You should join the forums or community related to your blog topic, participate in the discussion and outline all the problems and solutions from it, choose the correct titles and topics that concern the forums and communities' members. Write about 20 posts and start to share them with the forums' members.

Step #3 - Jump start and Increase your blog traffic.

From the previous steps, you should already have some basic traffic from the forums, now you need to bring more traffic to your blog. Use article marketing to tap into search engine traffic and to promote your blog. Write around 50 articles and optimize it to be keyword focused and submit them to EzineArticles.com, use the power of EzineArticles.com to capture search engine traffic, and if your article is interesting and good enough, you will also attract many publishers to distribute your articles, bring even more readers to your blog!

Post interesting content that will attract the bookmarking communities, submit your content, and let them vote and promote your website. If your content is interesting enough, you will see massive traffic flood to your blog! However, this kind of traffic does not stay long, they come and go and doesn't even click on your advertisement, you won't benefit directly. However, below is the list of the real benefit from bookmarking site:

Benefit #1 - More visitors to your blog.

May be 90% of the visitors will not stay, and only 10% of them attracted by your blog and become your loyalty readers, you have done it correctly! You just need to repeat the process and continue to provide good to attract visitors from the bookmarking site.

Benefit #2 - Get exposure for your blog.

Some of the visitors are web master or blogger, you can attract many back links to your post and boost your web site ranking, that will further increase your search engine traffic!

If you do it consistently, you will definitely increase your overall traffic.

Another effective traffic building method like Video marketing and participate in the blog community, leave comments at various authority blogs... and if you do it consistently, you will receive many back links from the blogs. Those authority blogs will eventually link to your blog if you continue to provide good content.

Step #4 - Start collecting email and provide newsletter.

You must collect email and build your own list! Your readers for some reasons may eventually forget about you and your blog, email is the best way to communicate, build relation and promote products! You can offer a good e-book, report or any kind of downloadable digital product in exchange for your reader's email!

Think about it, if you get 3,000 new visitors everyday, and 1,000 opt-in to your email list, you get additional 30,000 emails every month! That's a very big number, you will notice the more email you have, the more money you can earn!

Step #5 - Ways to make money with your blog.

There are many ways to earn money from your blog, I am going to share some of my favorites strategies...

Strategy #1 - Affiliate product. You can recommend good products to your readers and subscribers, you take a cut of commission when they buy the product from the vendor.

Strategy #2 - Advertisement Network. You can easily find many Text Ads / Banner Ads networks to join and advertise, the easiest one is using Google AdSense!

Strategy #3 - Blog / Product Reviews. Vendor will pay you to review their product, website or blog!

Strategy #4 - Create Your Own Product. You can create your own e-book, e-courses and software to sell to your readers!

Strategy #5 - Sponsors. From time to time, some product vendors will contact you and give free sponsor products to your readers to build their brand awareness, they will pay you to host a contest on your blog and this benefit both sites!

These are my favorite ways to make money from blog, there is no fix formula, but most of the bloggers choose to advertise for money, I prefer to sell my own or affiliate products, the commission is bigger!

 Newer Posts Older Posts Home

Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)

<marquee scrollamount="2">Wellcome into my blog, and don't forget write dont your comment here.
